As a PHP developer, the Planet PHP blog is, to be fair, pretty useless. Many of the posts aren't related to PHP, some of them are so basic they are not worth reading, and almost all of the rest are simply opinion pieces, or ill-conceived thoughts about the future of PHP. However, the occasional interesting gem makes it worthwhile.
Oh! I almost forgot. I completely freaked out when walking to get my hair cut on Saturday, when a 747 flew overhead, quite low, with four fighter jets escorting it. And then I cursed my camera phone for being so slow to use! Of course, when it happened 3 more times, and then the Red Arrows flew by, I finally figured out what it was all about...
I know I complain about work sometimes, but at the end of the day, interesting challenges mean I don't want to move on (yet), and it's certainly exciting being part of the growth that's going on.

Things that are getting me down: - People that don't think like I do. I know that not everyone thinks the same way, and generally that's a good thing. But there are times when I just wish everyone was able to comprehend the concept of doing things the right way, and properly, the first time. (Yes, I think there's a difference between doing things the right way, and doing things properly.)
- Being stretched too thinly. I had a fantastic 4 day weekend just a few days ago, with David at the Silverstone F1 GP, and it only took a few days at work to undo all the good it did me. We've got some new staff starting on Monday, which will help, but for various reasons (many of them not the fault of anyone at work), I still feel like a need a clone or two just to keep up, let alone get ahead.
- The fact that I *still* haven't managed to get a gallery up yet.
- Getting stuck on the tube for an hour yesterday, and then having to walk quite a way.
- London crowds. Well, not really - they don't exist. There's just a lot of people who are all walking their own way, without any regard for who is around them, or how they might move (or, often as not, stand) in such a way as to not cause huge jams of people that simply can't go anywhere.
- Feeling tired and run down and sick.
Things that are helping me live: - New flat. Lots of space, and the fact that almost everything is unpacked, and put away.
- Funny stuff. Via Jake's blog. Especially Sailor Moon. Although, Jake, I can't believe you didn't link: Transformers, The Muppets, Voltron, Pokemon, and (although slightly off the genre), Final Fantasy.
- I'm finally going to get a haircut today. It's just too long at the moment, and a cut will help. Yes, yes, so I'm a little vain. I don't care.
- The fact that Cathy's back from a week in the US later today!

It's almost two years since I raised this bug in PEAR::Date, described in more detail here - and at last, there's been an officical fix!
