38. Summary, and What's Left To Come

  • So, now you know all about literal characters, metacharacters and metasequences, how to get backreferences, how to search and how to search and replace.
  • Now you can get out there, and start regex-ing!
  • But, there's still a little more left to know:
    1. Greediness
    2. How regex engines work: DFA, Traditional NFA and POSIX NFA
    3. Why it matters how they work!
    4. Neat Perl-specific stuff: Regex modifiers: Case insensitive, global searches (including the use of the multi-match anchor) and Free-form regexes, lookahead and non-greedy quantifiers and Perl variable interpolation
    5. Regexes can't do everything!
  • However, it'll have to wait for another time!
